2 Month Appointment

So Mark had his 2 month pediatrician appointment this last Thursday. I left work and met Ali and Mark at the Dr. office. We were showed back to the exam room. The nurse asked us all the usual questions, i.e. intake, output, medications, and general behavior. We told her about the switch we are making to Prevacid from Zantac. So far that is going quite well. We also told her about his continual fussiness and crying during the day. The nurse and Ali then took Mark out to get his measurements and weight. When Mark returned I was informed that he now weighs 13 lbs. He really is getting big.

Next the dr. came in and gave us the newest measurement charts. Mark has leveled off to around the 80th percentile for weight and length and is still in the 90th for head circumference. Our little boy is growing well. The dr. then started asking about the switch to Prevacid and we explained the switch, since he didn't prescibe the Prevacid. We then talked about the fussiness. We explained how he has been crying a lot during the day and doesn't stop when we pick him up. The dr. then talked with us about probiotics. He explained that giving Mark this will help the good bacteria in his digestive tract to help settle his digestion. Then the dr. did his exam and concluded that Mark is developing well. We then talked with the lactation consultant. She said that the probiotics should help Mark settle down some if the fussiness is due to his digestion tract. She also said that Ali should also start cutting out the obvious dairy parts of her diet to determine if that cuts down on Mark's fussiness. She also gave us some hypoallergenic formula to see if that helps in the time it takes for dairy to get out of Ali's system.

So on Friday Ali started the dairy-free diet. Knowing that it would take time to make the transition, last night we started giving Mark only the formula. So after a day and a half of straight formula, Mark slept most of the afternoon today, on me watching football. And he finished his last feeding tonight and promptly went right to sleep. I think we might have found the solution. So while Ali is transitioning, we mostlikely will be giving Mark the formula but it is unbelievably expensive. The plan is to figure out what Ali needs to eliminate from her diet and then stop the formula.

So we are now taking donations to the Mark's Hypoallergenic Formula fund.

Wow, I'm glad to hear that the new formula is helping...but sad to hear it's so expensive! Ali, good luck on going dairy-free to help your little guy! He's worth it!
